Hi everybody!
People are always asking me why I choose the nick 'Nashira' for the Anggun's foruns, but the reason envolve another theme...
Today I wrote for Matteo about this, and I decide to put my words on a open post, so, I'll share with all of you this story.
Love,
Flávia

About my nick on the Forum

I love the name Nashira, and let me explain why.

This is the name I choose for a RPG character of mine. She is an elf (like the elves of Tolkien) and she is a kind of priest called 'Cleric' (RPG term) of Corellon (a god for the elves on RPG).

But why I choose this name for my elf? It's because I really love the stars, and 'Nashira' is a name from a sky star (Capricorn constelation)... :)

I like astronomy a LOT!!! And I used to know the moon phases, and some constelations, and things like that.

When I entered the first forum about Anggun (the indonesian one) I note they didn't use real names (I discovery only later Ika used her real name). I needed to choose a name for enter on Forum, and I remember my elf, and the sky star.

Ika helped me a lot, because I don't speak indonesian, and I was lost there. But all of them were kind with me, answering me in english with patience. In some few days, Ika told me about World Forum, and I decided to keep the same 'nick name': Nashira.

That's it...

Kisses to all,

Flavia

About RPG

A role-playing game (RPG, often roleplaying game) is a type of game in which players assume the roles of characters and collaboratively create stories. Gameplay progresses according to a predetermined system of rules and guidelines, within which players may improvise freely. Players' choices shape the direction and outcome of roleplaying games.

A role-playing game rarely has winners or losers. This makes role-playing games fundamentally different from board games, card games, sports and most other types of games. Like novels or films, roleplaying games appeal because they engage the imagination.

Role-playing games are typically more collaborative and social than competitive. A typical role-playing game unites its participants into a single team, known as a "party", that plays as a group. Most role-playing games are conducted like radio drama: only the spoken component is acted, and players step out of character to describe action and discuss game mechanics.

At their core, these games are a form of interactive and collaborative storytelling. Whereas cinema, novels and television shows are passive, role-playing games engage the participants actively, allowing them to simultaneously be audience, actor, and author. An example of this difference could be the classic scene in a horror film when a doomed character ventures alone into the basement to fix a broken fuse. The audience experiences dramatic irony and says, "Don't go down there!" because they know the monster is lying in wait. In a role-playing game, the player may choose what to do about the broken fuse.

In most role-playing games, participants play the parts of characters in an imaginary world that is organized, adjudicated, and sometimes created by a gamemaster (aka narrator, referee, dungeonmaster). The gamesmaster's role is twofold - s/he provides a world and cast of characters for the players to interact with (and adjudicates how these interactions proceed), but may also be responsible for advancing some kind of storyline or plot, albeit one which is subject to the somewhat unpredictable behavior of the players.

Some newer role-playing games expand the players' powers beyond dictating the actions of their player characters. Some groups or games have rapidly rotating gamemaster duties, or in the more radical cases no gamemaster at all.

The cooperative aspect of role-playing games comes in two forms. The first is that the players are generally not competing against each other. Most sports, board games and card games place players in opposition, with the goal of coming out the winner. A role-playing game is not a zero-sum game; in the majority of these games, the only way to actually lose is not to enjoy the game. The second form of cooperation is that all of the players are writing the story together, as a team. At the end of a role-playing game session the events that transpired could be written into a book that would tell a story written by all of its participants.

Despite this generally non-competitive nature, RPGs usually have rules, which enable the players to determine the success or failure of their characters in their endeavors. Normally this will involve assigning certain abilities to each character - from something as mundane as being quite strong to having x-ray vision. Frequently dice are introduced in order bring in an element of chance, though this is not always the case.

Historically, role-playing games evolved from wargaming, but are generally simpler, more fantastic, and less realistic or historically exacting, and require far less space and equipment than the older and more traditional hobby.

The term "role-playing game" is used for a few distinct methods of play. The traditional method is a pen-and-paper or tabletop game played with dice by several people. These frequently use several types of polyhedral dice. Some games and gamers also use figurines on a grid (usually a square or hexagonal one) to depict strategic and tactical situations for play. This is especially used during combat which is often a significant aspect of such games. When figurines are used, then position, terrain, and other elements can affect the probabilities. (For example, a character making an attack from an opponent's rear or flank may gain a significant bonus on their chances "to hit" and may also gain advantages on any damage they inflict).

Sometimes figurines are not used at all, and sometimes a whiteboard, chalkboard or similar drawing surface is used in lieu of any figures or tokens. However, many gamers are also collectors of the figurines and engage in the related hobby of painting and customizing them.

Hi dear Matteo,
The purpose on the game is not kill the character (player). And isn't the "Dungeon Master" (or Storyteller) against the players... Is much more than that!
Yes, we have a "life points" on the classic 'Dungeons and Dragons', and in storyteller system we have another kind of limits.
But the most important is: You always have to make choices on the game. Like in Life. Some choices will be good ones, others don't.
In fact you really can die on the game, like a computer game, or like pokemon cards when all your 'pets' must return to the pokeballs, and restore energy (and your adversary wins the play - by the way, on card games we always have winners and losers).
It's very sad when you lose a character.
BUT, specially on the classic D&D, the master or the others players can try do something for bring your character back!
Dead, on RPG (specially on fantasy ones) is not the end.
And for sure: Dead does not mean you are a loser! Never!
The primary purpose of RPG game is fun, is trade ideas and feelings with your friends...
Even with a dead of your character, you simply cannot be a loser 'cause you already win, sharing a 'good time', laughting, crying and simply kidding.
With your heart, like a child.
I hope you can understand my bad english...
Be blessed and baci,
Flavia

Mmh, I think RPG are not the kind of games I like... I remember when I was 11-12, one of my friend try to make me enter in the world of Role Playing Games, but I really couldn't understand the sense of that games. I tried to play one only time with Dungeons Dragons, I chose my character and my instruments, but I didn't enjoy for nothing. It was like to play with no rules, every player did what he wanted: fantasy and imagination have not boundaries, so the game was without control!!! That time I felt an extraneous between my friends, what a uneasiness!! From that time I decided not to play with RPG anymore... I prefer more normal games, with precise rules and with winners and losers!!!

The card games of Pokemon and Yugi-Ho are a kind of game I like. Another game I like very much when I was younger is HEROQUEST.
Do you know it? I remember the happiness when Father Christmas bring it to me!!!

A question to Nashira: I remember from that time i have a character with some life points. So it means my character could die in the game. If my character died, I would had been a loser. So, it's possible to be winner or loser in RPG or not?
